In business since 1993 and bringing over seventy years of combined experience to every project, Atlantic Consulting is the mid-Atlantic's premier vertical transportation consulting firm.

Our founder, Richard Shaffer, has worked in the vertical transportation industry since 1968. He was a regional manager for one of the world’s largest elevator companies before founding ACI in 1993. He is a QEIS(CEIS)-certified elevator inspector supervisor and a member of the Board of Certification for the National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities (NAESA). He also serves as a member of the Technical Advisory Group code committee for the District of Columbia.

Our principal, Kimberly Shaffer, joined ACI in 2001. She is a QEI(CEI)-certified elevator inspector and ASME and IAEE member in good standing with experience on jobs ranging from decades-old single-unit installations to modern portfolios of 20+ units. In 2016, she obtained her PMP certification. She is also a member of the Maryland bar.

To this day ACI is a family-owned business that combines all of the knowledge of larger firms with the personal service and valued relationships you just can’t get when dealing with a bureaucracy.

We approach our clients’ concerns with their point of view in mind. We look at the issues just as if they are our issues, then seek out and deliver the best and most cost-effective solution. We have an interest in forming partnerships, not just completing projects.
